Is it bad that it's been nearly a month since I went to Universal Whisky and I'm still dreaming about it? This was my fourth year attending, and let me tell you, there is never a dull moment at this event. Held annually at the Wynn Resort & Casino, the space oozes elegance and class when you step on the floor. The event focuses on whisky and all that that entails: scotch, bourbon, rye, single malts... but there's a surprising amount of other spirits to sip and savor. While they do have bottles that plenty of whisky and spirits enthusiasts have tried, they also have the upper echelon of pours- super rare, extremely aged, limited release, and one-offs that very few have tried, let alone heard about. As always, I try to stick with the pours that are of upmost exclusivity since it's impossible to try it all.
The brands that I made it to were: Fable, Remy Martin, Flor De Cana, The Dalmore, Usquaebach, Dewar's, Cutty Sark, Rosebank, Impex Beverages, Paul John, Benromach, Kokorodama, and Rabbit Hole. So many good things to take in, but I will say my favorite pour of the night was The Dalmore 2009 Vintage: Matured in American white oak ex-Bourbon barrels, then aged in Matusalem Sherry casks and Graham's 10-year-old Tawny Port pipes. I love how much the Tawny Port influenced the flavor of the whisky with those toffee and golden raisin notes on the finish. Incredibly delicious! The date has already been set for 2026- April 24-26, so make sure to save the date! If you can't wait until then, you can find a stellar selection of unique bottles available on findrarewhisky.com Slainte!
